Wikipedia had described stress as a biological term for the consequences
of the failure of a human or animal to respond appropriately to
emotional or physical threats to the organism, whether actual or
imagined. It includes a state of alarm and adrenaline production,
short-term resistance as a coping mechanism, and exhaustion. Common
stress symptoms include irritability, muscular tension, inability to
concentrate and a variety of physical reactions, such as headaches and
elevated heart rate. Stress can impact your body in many ways and cause
a wide variety of symptoms.

Here are some of the most common changes
in attitudes and behavior that people experience when they are under
great pressure which I’ve extracted from a very practical book Minimize
Stress, Maximize Success, effective strategies for realizing your goals
by Clare Harris (2003). Which ones apply to you?
being irritable and snappy with colleagues
coping at work but taking it out on loved ones at home
sudden explosive temper although you’re usually a calm person
becoming perfectionist – `good enough” just won’t do
avoiding challenging tasks – doing small, unimportant things instead
finding multi-tasking hard – having a pressing wish to have a single
focus
becoming distant and avoiding contact with workmates
becoming hypersensitive to criticism
trying to do everything yourself
feeling panicky
feeling tearful
relying on alcohol
overdosing on junk food, chocolate or coffee
wanting to walk away from your work, when you used to enjoy it
working longer hours without feeling you’re getting anywhere • going
over and over things relentlessly in your mind
Interesting topic discussed by Associate Prof Dr. Azahari Ismail of UPM which I think worth
sharing here. These five types of friend are actually derived from the
main topic discussed at February 5th 2010 regarding ‘Self development As a strategy
of Human Resources Development”, and among several elements to instill
self development attitude within individual is through network expansion
through multiple and variable friendship and networks. This is how the
types of friend becomes related to self development As a strategy of
HRD.
Just decor picture.
So the five types of friend that one
should have in order to develop his/her self development are listed as:
Spy – One needs a kind
of friends who have every information at their fingertip, means that
this type of friends have all kind of details, secrets (even a gossip)
and etc so that a person can rely on them to get any information needed;
Thinker – A person
also need a kind of friends who encourage thinking at deep level and
always make their friends wonder for any possible situation. This kind
of friends will shape one’s personal cognitive ability and encourage
creative thinking in their friend’s mind;
Radio Station – This
is a kind of friend that will do the good PR for his/her friend. The
function of this friend actually to disperse any good information about
his/her friend to others so that his/her friend can easily earn respect
from community of networks;
Workhorse – This kind
of friend offers nothing to his/her friend except good and loyal
service, with this kind of friends around, an individual can ask them to
do whatever jobs, assignment and task and they are willingly perform
that just for the sake of friendship; and
‘Bouncer/Godfather‘ –
In Malay we call it ‘Kaki Pukul’, this kind of friends actually have all
the above four qualities which made them so reliable and much needed by
their friends.
So in term of self development which
later lead to leadership development, an individual must have all the
five types of friends mentioned above surrounding him/her, So that he or
she can emulate how these five types of friends inter-related with each
other and and can give advantages for him/her.
LONDON: Adik ipar bekas perdana menteri
Britain Tony Blair yang juga penyiar dan wartawan Lauren Booth, 43,
mengumumkan beliau memeluk Islam enam minggu lalu selepas mendapat
hidayah.
Lauren, adik tiri kepada isteri Blair, Cherry, berkata beliau kini
memakai hijab ketika keluar rumah, bersolat lima kali sehari dan pergi
ke masjid setiap kali mempunyai kesempatan.
Adik ipar Tony Blair peluk Islam.
"Saya tidak lagi makan
daging babi atau minum arak. Saya juga membaca al-Quran setiap hari dan
kini sudah sampai ke halaman 60. Sudah 45 hari saya tidak meneguk arak,
paling lama dalam tempoh 25 tahun.
"Ajaibnya, sejak memeluk
Islam saya langsung tidak teringin menyentuh arak, sedangkan sebelum ini
saya akan minum sekurang-kurangnya dua gelas setiap hari," katanya yang
dipetik akhbar Daily Mail.
Lauren berkata beliau memperoleh ‘pengalaman
suci’ ketika mengunjungi Masjid Fatimah al-Masumeh, yang menempatkan
makam Fatimah al-Masumeh, adik Imam Reza, imam kelapan penganut Syiah
daripada keturunan Saidina Ali, di Qom.
"Tiba-tiba saja saya
berasa tenang dan gembira. Sejurus tiba di Britain, saya terus mengambil
keputusan memeluk Islam," katanya.
– Agensi
